Satyanarayana Vratam is the vow families keep when something has been granted — a new home, a marriage, a recovery, a safe journey — and when something is about to be asked for. Your purohit performs the pooja with you and reads the katha aloud.

Kedareswara Vratam is kept for Shiva as Kedareswara, traditionally observed in the month of Kartika, and closes with the thread tied at the wrist.

The sankalpam is taken in your family's names and gotra. Prasadam is offered at the close.
